Links-on-the-fly Technology for Robust, Efficient and Smart Communication in Unpredictable Environments
Current communication standards and systems are not optimally prepared for their application in unpredictable environments which occur for example in serious disaster scenarios such as earthquakes or tsunamis. Cellular communications systems are planned using accurate/strict link budget allocation mechanisms, in order to keep the probability of outage in an acceptable range. The whole communication chain (coding, signalling chain, but as well as higher layer protocols) is optimized for the operation in this range.

The main goal of PROACTIVE is to research a holistic citizen-friendly multi sensor fusion and intelligent reasoning framework enabling the prediction, detection, understanding and efficient response to terrorist interests, goals and courses of actions in an urban environment.
INDECT - Intelligent information system supporting observation, searching and detection for security of citizens in urban environment
INDECT is a research project focused on development of innovative techniques and algorithms for combating terrorism and other criminal activities threatening the citizens of the European Union. The project is performed by a group of 17 European partners under the leadership of the AGH – University of Science and Technology in Krakow. The main Coordinator of the project is prof. Andrzej Dziech. The project consortium consists of 11 universities, 4 companies and 2 potential users (Police Service of Northern Ireland and Polish Police).
Socially-aware Management of New Overlay Application Traffic combined with Energy Efficiency in the Internet

The Internet has seen a strong move to support overlay applications, which demand a coherent and integrated control in the underlying heterogeneous networks in a scalable, resilient, and energy-efficient manner. A tighter integration of network management and overlay service functionality can lead to cross-layer optimization of operations and management, thus, being a promising approach to offer a large business potential in operational perspectives for all players involved.
FLexible Architecture for Virtualizable wireless future Internet Access
Wireless networks importance for the Future Internet is raising at a fast pace as mobile devices increasingly become its entry point. However, today’s wireless networks are unable to rapidly adapt to evolving contexts and service needs due to their rigid architectural design. We believe that the wireless Internet’s inability to keep up with innovation directly stems from its reliance on the traditional layer-based Internet abstraction. Especially, the Link Layer interface appears way too abstracted from the actual wireless access and coordination needs.

Anticipating the Network of the Future - From Theory to Design
Euro-NF was a European project on the Network of the Future, formed by 35 institutions (from the academia and industry) from 16 countries. Its main target was to integrate the research effort of the partners to be a source of innovation and a think tank on possible scientific, technological and socio-economic trajectories towards the network of the future. Euro-NF was a Network of Excellence supported by the theme "Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)" under the 7th Framework Programme of the European Community for RTD.
