Akamai is seeking a Application Software Engineer Intern to join The Customer Enablement Engineering group.  You will work with other engineers, Customer Care group and technical writers to improve upon existing applications and create new applications for the EdgeControl Portal.

Building our software is a challenging problem on multiple fronts: a) the size and global spread of Akamai's customer base, b) the diversity and scale of Akamai's solutions, and c) 2000+ employees dispersed in locations around the globe. The team’s work encompasses the full engineering cycle: derive requirements, define features, design and develop the implementation, verify for correctness, analyze usage patterns, scale and extend systems as Akamai grows its business. 
 
Responsibilities
* Design and develop web based applications which will be utilized by customers as they conduct Events on the Internet.

Basic Qualifications
* Experience with development in Java
* Experience with rich web application development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS).
* Fluency in English
Desired Qualifications
* Java web development experience
* Experience with databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL)
* Good knowledge of Spring and Hibernate
* Experience with Javascript frameworks (e.g., JQuery, AngularJS)

Software Engineer in Test Intern

Akamai is seeking a Software Engineer in Test Intern to join the Luna Control Center Development team.  In this role, you’ll work closely with developers to develop and execute tests for our new portal modules that will revolutionize the customer experience on Akamai.

* Design, develop and deploy manual or automated tests to replicate real world scenarios.
* Reproduce problems seen in production and verify solutions.
* Plan and execute tests, analyze and report results.
 
Basic Qualifications
* Experience with web servers, Internet protocols or HTTP content delivery.
* Experience with rich web application development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS).
* Fluency in English

Network Operations Intern

 

About the Team 
This is an opportunity to work in a large scale, global network operations department. Working directly with Akamai’s deployed network you are involved in every facet of Akamai’s network operations and get to contribute to Akamai’s success while being part of a very important team.
 
About the Team

The Akamai Network Operations Command Center (NOCC) team you will be joining is responsible for the availability of Akamai’s deployed network. To achieve this goal the NOCC is responsible for:
* Monitoring Akamai’s deployed network.
* Investigating service interruptions and determining the root cause.
* Resolving service interruptions either within the NOCC or by escalating to other entities inside or outside of Akamai.
* Managing and tracking events through resolution and maintaining a history of network-impacting issues using ticketing system.
* Providing ongoing maintenance and administration for the deployed network.

 

Responsibilities

*Monitoring ~150,000 distributed Linux server network using an internally developed ‘Network management system’. (Akamai has largest content delivery network in the world).
*Responding to alerts in timely fashion as per the pre-defined priority levels and SLAs.
*Understanding, analyzing the root causes of issues and solving it.
*Timely escalation of complex issues to ‘SMEs’.
*Working closely with Network partners and resolving non-hardware related problems.
*Create and update internal NOCC processes and procedures for better understanding and problem solving.
*Analyze and report on trends regarding issues related to various networks.

 

Qualifications

*Student/ Graduate in Computer Science/Engineering or similar.
*Basic knowledge of Linux and networking with excellent problem solving skills.
*Basic knowledge of Internet protocols (TCP,UDP,DNS,BGP,HTTP,SMTP) and tools used for troubleshooting various problems (hardware/software/networking).
*Technical passion, willingness to learn
*Fluent English
*Strong interpersonal skills.
*Ability to develop, augment and advise on procedures, documentation and tools. 
*Ability to work in an energetic and dynamic environment.

 

 

Platform Operations Engineering Intern

 

About the Job
The Platform Infrastructure Engineering Intern performs basic engineering tasks including developing system tools to be used by platform, creating build/test environment, and possibly developing new version of web frontend for tools. Works closely with senior engineers to troubleshoot issues and implement fixes. Candidate will have chance to work in technically advanced environment connected with top Internet technologies and group of talented engineers. 
 
An intern will:

  • Work on potentially many build and environment automation task
  • Work and resolve technical problems and issues reported from the technical staff of our internal customers related to tools developed by Platform Infrastructure Engineering Team
  • Develop new Web frontend for tools
  • Modify existing frontend to improve user experience

Qualifications:

  • Student/ Graduate in Computer Science/Engineering or similar.
  • Fluent English
  • Experience in web development - some coding experience in Bash, Perl or Python or Java, JavaScript, Twitter Bootstrap, HTML5
  • Knowledge of Linux/Unix environment
  • Experience in system software development
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and independently solves technical problems
